Come get some simple summer balcony decor ideas as I decorate my mom’s beautiful lake house balcony with coastal cottage accents.

This project is part of the Seasonal Simplicity blog hop hosted by The Happy Housie, so after you read my post make sure to see all of the other beautiful outdoor summer spaces linked at the bottom!

A couple of years ago, my parents built a beautiful home overlooking a lake. They most recently finished their master bathroom, which you can see right here. This summer, I thought it would be fun to decorate their adorable balcony just off their master bedroom. It overlooks the lake and it’s the perfect spot for them to relax and enjoy the season.

I was inspired by a photo I found on Pinterest of a balcony with a striped & fringed umbrella. Because I didn’t want to spend a ton of money to buy one, I decided to DIY one!

I bought this navy & white striped beach umbrella off Amazon, and then glued some fringe trim (also from Amazon) to its edges with my trusty hot glue gun. I love how this simple DIY turned out!

I gave my parents this patio set earlier this Spring because I thought it would look SO perfect on their country cottage balcony. I love the classic lines of these chairs and the blue cushions. It’s from last year’s patio collection at The Brick.

My mom made some beautiful blue floral cushions from April Cornell napkins, and they add such a vintage charm to this set.

I added an old wicker tray I had on hand to the table along with some vintage books and cups (from Value Village), a faux plant from Michaels and some faux Dollarama roses.

I popped my DIY umbrella in an old electrical reel and steadied it with a concrete block. (Buying a patio umbrella base would have been easier, but this was inexpensive and it worked!)

My mom always has beautiful plants and flowers on hand in the summer, so we added them to the patio with some lanterns and jugs.

Draping a string of globe lights on the side of the patio gives the space a little bit of ambiance for those warm summer evenings.

The best part of this balcony? The gorgeous lake view! And you can hear loons and birds calling through the soft evening breeze. It’s so magical.

I love how this budget-friendly styling of my parents’ lake house patio turned out, and I hope they’ll enjoy many beautiful summer evenings relaxing here!
