Easy Simmer Pot Gift Idea Instructions

What is a simmer pot?

A simmer pot is when you add delicious smelling fruits, spices and any extras to a pot of simmering water or a slow cooker so that you fill your home with a natural, seasonal scent. Even simmering this mix for a half hour can make your whole house smell incredible!

You can easily give a simmer pot kit (or “christmas potpourri” kit) as a gift by adding dry ingredients to a mason jar, and then attaching a tag explaining how to use the mix.

What I used in my Simmer Pot Gift

The dried fruit, spice and greenery combinations for your own simmer pot kit are endless. For mine, I first dried some apple and orange slices in the oven. You can bake the slices at 175 F for a couple of hours and even dust them in cinnamon.

After adding those to a recycled mason jar, I also included some whole cloves, dried cranberries, a vanilla bean, and a couple of spruce tree clippings.

More simmer pot in a jar ingredient ideas:

  • cinnamon sticks
  • rosemary sprigs
  • star anise
  • bay leaf

After adding your favourite dried simmer pot ingredients in a mason jar, add the lid, tie on a printable tag with the instructions with some twine or ribbon, and your beautiful DIY Christmas gift is ready to give! The recipient will enjoy this amazing smelling Christmas stovetop potpourri as they simmer it on the stove and enjoy the festive aroma.

Tip: Make Many Gifts at Once!

Consider buying your simmer pot kit gifts in bulk so that you can make several of these simmering potpourri gifts all at once. In only one afternoon, you could have a whole tableful of special, handmade gifts to give to friends, family, neighbours, teachers, and everyone special in your life!

  1. Is it possible to get the editable version of the tags? I am making this recipe but instead of drying the fruit, I’m adding water to the jar. So I don’t want them to add 4 more cups? Thank you so much!!
