We’ve finished the first room in our Little Lake House! It was a ton of work, but I’m so excited to share this modern coastal bedroom makeover with you today. I hope you’ll be inspired to create your own soothing oasis on a budget!

In case you’re new here, we purchased a run-down lakefront home last Fall. You can read more about it here and how we had to demolish it right down to the studs.

We’re making over each room one-by-one with the help of some sponsors and friends collaborating with us, and this bedroom was the first makeover on our list:

This is the main bedroom in the home, and it measures about 10′ by 14′. It’s a decent size for this smaller, 1000 square foot home. I thought it would be nice to incorporate a King sized bed into this room and create a calming, coastal retreat in colours of blue and white.

Like everywhere else in this house, my husband Sean and I had to remove everything in this room right down to the studs. We had a spray foam company insulate the home so that it would keep it pest-free and energy efficient.

After that, we made over this room from the top to the bottom! Wagner sent me a paint sprayer and sponsored the YouTube video for this makeover, and that helped me renovate this room on a tight timeline.

I’m so pleased with how this bedroom turned out, and I really think it sets the stage for the rest of the rooms in this little home.

My favourite part is the deep teal shiplap wall, and I love that I was able to mix inexpensive furniture with thrifted pieces and things I had on hand to create an eclectic look.

  1. can you tell me a bit about the bed frame? i like that the clearance is high for underbed storage, but i hear that Ikea frames squeak and are not real stable . both husband and i are tall and i’m heavier.
and feed back would be appreciated .

  2. Love this look! Do you use eggshell sheen for Behr? Also which white do you prefer most… the silky white or whisper white most? What is the difference of the two? Thanks so much!
